Studio Pets

Having grown up on a steady diet of cartoons, Disney characters, and fables, one can understand why Americans are crazy about their pets. We identify with them, and project on to them, qualities and lifestyles that we wish for ourselves. My series of Studio Pets is a humorous and endearing commentary on our pet centric culture, and on our obsession with our own personal appearance and adornment, encompassing fashion, costumes, eyewear, jewelry and tattoos. Each pet’s unique style and personality reveals itself in the process of being formed and glazed, and is named accordingly. My fantasy is that they have as much fun in my studio, as I do, indulging in their own creative process, dipping their tails and feet into the glazes and paints.

Each of these unique, hollow sculptures is hand modeled in white earthenware, using slabs and coils, and meticulously glazed, often one drop at a time.
